Will unfortunately not be making the trip as all friends and family dropped me, and got me to repaint my grandparents house while my granddad is in frail care .

In any-case I hope someone will bring up the following topic on requiring permits to keep tarantulas sold in petshops a few years ago. I have tried phoning Mr Erasmus 011 355 1280 a few times "no reply, no answer" I then tried phoning, Bongan or Bongani 011 355 1665 "no reply, no answer" I then tried the last number given to my by nat co 011 355 1586 "no reply, no answer". My question or concern is that I spent R200 on airtime phoning the "authorities" concerning the application process of requiring a permit. The lack of communication was staggering.

If there is anyone at the discussion/event please ask who the hell would I need to contact to get permits for YES a tarantula sold in petshops which is now illegal to keep without a permit.

So my real question would have been for tomorrow is:
- are there any people able to help me with applying for a permit to keep my 7 tarantulas? Tel no, with hopefully a person on the other side.

Thank you. I hope the event was educating and that some issues are now clear and more user-friendly towards breeders and collectors alike. Hope there would be an event and discussion regarding the topic yet again soon.

Will keep all up-to-date yet again considering the application, but first to get in contact with the right person... let's see where this will lead me.

So can anyone please update the rest of us with what went down at the meeting?

I would like to thank Taki and Scarab and the others who organised this workshop. It went well and I for one was pleasantly surprised by the approach presented by Ian Engelbrecht. Let us hope that this translates into practical regulations which will benefit all. I had lots of questions after my unfruitful attempts to communicate with Gauteng Nature Conservation previously, but did not need to ask anything! It would appear that the work of our silent ambassadors has borne fruit and that the authorities are far more receptive to cooperation with the hobby, rather than our previous history of non-replies and/or conflict. I hope that the positive vibe than arose this morning translates into something tangible, and does not take too long.

This sounds promising! so anyone with details? If permits will soon be possible to get or if they really are going to put a stop to the hobby as whole? importing?
