We have something very interesting planned for the 20th of August 2011!
We would like to organize a get together with interested members of the tarantula and baboon spider community to talk about legislation and permits relating to baboon spiders and tarantulas. The purpose will be to clarify any questions there may be regarding legislation, the permitting process, and the reasons why this is all necessary. Nature Conservation would like to use the opportunity to gather inputs on developing a strategy for conserving baboon spiders and managing the trade in exotics so that the threat of alien species invasions is minimized.
Attending the meeting from Gauteng Nature Conservation will be Ian Engelbrecht in his capacity as Invertebrate Scientist, and Leon Lotter who is the head of Resource Protection, which manages the permitting process. They will give Powerpoint presentations first, followed by a questions and discussion session afterwards.
The venue has not yet been finalised but it will be either in Pretoria or Johannesburg on that Saturday morning. Please let us know if you will definitely attend so we can plan accordingly for numbers....
