@ lasidora

If you were new to keeping tarantulas and I sold you a Mexican Fire Leg, which would you buy? And what would you have for you money’s worth? B. smithi? B. auratum? B. emilia? B. boehmei.... I'm not making fun...

Yeah is scary enough to know he reproduced? I also think he should not even try to learn a few Latin names as it looks like he is already struggling with English as it is. Hell a child will not even understand the common names of a few tarantulas. They will walk into a Petshop and buy a nice looking "visual appealing" tarantula.

I also struggled to learn the Latin names of some Tarantulas, and still do but it's not going to stop me from learning. It is scary to see how far I have come when speaking to an owner of a petshop and referring to Tarantulas using the Latin names, or trying to figure out what the Latin name is for the common name the owner gave me. I find myself googling Latin names sometimes to get the common name of some species ;) All I will say is that the person is bloody hard headed and should stay clear of smoking pot it already destroyed a few braincells and I don't want to know what it would do to a Tarantula ;)

The Latin thing again...

It is nothing prejudiced against latin. It is blatant ignorance. Stupidity doesn't even feature. It is mere unwillingness.

I can tolerate someone intellectually challenged, willing to learn, showing enthusiasm. The blatant disregard for procedure, and unwillingness is what gets to most of us. The reason scientific names are used, as Stan pointed out, is so we as South African keepers, can converse with people across the language barrier and both parties know what the other speaks off. I am going to go as far, to say, that the impression I get from these people, and I am sure many can name a few on our forum too, that sells tarantulas, but refuses to use the scientific names, do so with utmost intend to mislead.

As result I will by no means do business with such people. I will engage them with utmost fervour on any and every thread I find where the scientific names are not mentioned, and I urge others to do the same. I am not saying stomp the first newbie that doesn't bear knowledge of the method, but educate them, and should they fail then to comply - engage.

Can someone please supply me with the correct Scientific name for this spider?
The guy at the petshop sold it to me as a Camel Spider?
