I've asked around. They may, just may, have left a door open on this; in the draft Gauteng bill they say no-one may get a permit for unlisted species unless a risk assesment is done, but they dont say by who.
You will likely ask for a permit and they will say you must pay as you wish to keep the animal BUT, in terms of the national legislation the risk assments need to be done to actually list something as invasive, so maybe the department could be forced to foot the bill in court.
However, they are not listing these as invasive, just saying you cant keep them without a permit. But then they step on property rights and criminilising people who bought the animals legally.
Is there not a freaking lawyer who keeps exotic animals we can rope in on this?

Inyanga
I say we have something here, even if its just to defend those 11. They might only be on the list today, tomorrow they will add more. We have to put our foot down now, otherwise later on we will have more and more listed.

Hi guys,

I know of a lawyer that makes enclosures for exotics in his spare time. I'll ask him to have a look at the proposed legislation and this thread and maybe he can give some input on it.

Will let you guys know what he says.

@SixGun16

We would be much obliged to you, this is exactly what we need and don’t have legal representation!

The Gauteng legislation is of more immediate concern IMHO...
