Well you can add some thing heavy ontop of the lids!
AS long as the tarantula can not get a good footing it will not be able to lift the lid properly and climb out.
Or stack the glass tanks ontop of each other.

Or find a wood working shop and ask them to make wooden lids for you!
or you can do it you self with some wood and screws and water proof wood glue and a Jig saw.

Cut a piece of wood to fit inside the tank, then cut another piece that will fit on the top side of the fish tank,
once you got your two pieces then add glue and screw it together let it dry for a day or so then you can drill holes into the wood or use a hole saw and add plastic vents. easy to Diy lids.

A handy piece of advice I got from snarf once was to use a headlamp that had a "red-light" setting. This way the light doesn't scare off the T and you have enough light to be able to see it with.

Thanks, the wooden lids is a great idea. I can't put anything on top of the current tanks, as the ventilation is on the lids.

I'll get a friends to make some perspex tanks, and then use your idea for the wooden lids.
