Hi mist,

The male will run away if the female did not give him a warm welcome. She could have been startled by his presence or just not be in the mood.
A couple of things you must consider:
1- It's best to mate late afternoon when spiders are awake and getting ready for their nightly maneuvers. This way both spiders would have woken up.
2- Make sure you use clean equipment to move the male into the females enclosure so there is no sent of another spider.
3- Be as calm as possible you don't want to give either spider a fright, this could set you back hours to get them calm and relaxed again.

Mist, the whole mating thing can take 10 seconds or like I've been sitting with my GBB's for two hours. Remember patience is a virtue.

Just keep trying.
Eventually you will end up with a mated spider or a fat female. Its all a learning curve, so watch and learn as much as possible. :)

Thanks!

Which species would you recommend for first time breeders?

Been thinking about this.
Another easy first time breeding would be Holothele incei. ;)
