Just a question for you guys who've made plexiglas enclosures: does it work out alright cost-wise? I'd dearly love to make my T's some nice spec cages, but I can't exactly spend a thousand bucks on a cage either (and yes, I'm aware that my math skills are terrible...)

To be honest. If you don't have a contact to get perspex or acrylic for very cheap your best option would be glass. You can build glass enclosures for next to nothing at the cost which Builders are selling glass for.

Sure, it's nice to use perspex or some of those fancy, very light weight materials, but when it comes to money saving, and like the guys that has 100+ Tarantulas, glass would be the best cost-wise.

@MB, I phoned Ampa. They are cheaper than maizeys but will only sell me a sheet. No cutting to size. Unless you have a very big, decent bench saw its just not an option.

@bonzai, Glass is a lot heavier complared to a similar thickness perspex or plexi. So if you have a very limited space and cant put up a hectic shelving system then plastic is the way to go. A 38Lt tub is R60 and a similar sized plexi enclosure will cost about R350. Im sticking with tubs myself. Stackable, good viewing. Might not be flashy but hey it does the job.

There are complaints that some plexiglass/perspex sheets suffer from warping and or discoloring. So does this stuff have any of that? I know these issues relates to the cheapy stuff. But hey if I can get my plastic? cheaper with the same quality I'd take it any day.

*Edit. Ok I see that it is actually the same stuff known as Perspex etc and its just a different brand name. Wonder what the quality is like then.

I own a small signage and branding business, with perspex and acrylic as part of the materials stocked by my suppliers.

If anyone is interested in using Perspex for enclosures, let me know and I should be able to get it at better prices.

Personally, I find that Perspex and Acrylic scratches way too easily, and trust me, after taking the time to build a nice enclosure for your T's, the first scratch would irritate you immensely.

But, like I said, if anyone is keen, let me know.
