Ok so I only caught up with this thread now and my observations and thoughts are as follows:
If you read through the whole thread from scratch it's very interesting how many times and how many people used
BOLD text to emphasise how this sort of thing needs to be done so
responsibly and how any offspring
should never get sold or even
given to
select people, I wonder why!!!
Clearly everyone agrees that it's generally out of pure self curiosity or boredom that it would be done and that simply doesn't sit well with me as a good motive or reason....
And of course there's Mammon and Scarabs debate on responsiblity... Scarab my old mate, you asked
'At what point does PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY kick in? At what point can an individual take RESPONSIBILITY for their own actions? At what point will the human race STOP PASSING THE BUCK? Are you telling me that the Chinese who invented Gun Powder in the second half of the 19th century are responsible for the actions of modern society? Come on mate, we should take stock of what we as individuals do, and stop placing blame elsewhere.
Edit: Furthermore:
Is the gun shop owner responsible for the family suicide?
Is the bike shop owner responsible for the speeding biker?'
My issue with that is that the gun shop owner can only sell to someone with a license and that is 18 years or older, the bike shop owner exactly the same etc.
Seeing as we don't have an age restriction on the site and that we cannot tell who is
responsible or
logical, I feel that putting
risky ideas into people's heads is not a good one.
As you said, the blueprint to make a bomb can be found on the internet
IF SEARCHED, I would indeed
be or
feel responsible if I pointed the instructions out to my children and they proceeded to blow their school up the following week!!!
Giving too much information can lead to big problems (specifically age or mind appropriate info

)
My other issue would be that say for eg. the super responsible Mr X did attempt breeding the P metallica with a T blondi for a supersized blue T that everybody would want and he was succesful, of course he would
NEVER responsibly make the slings available to anyone but
possibly some other equally responsible friends. But Mr X has a horrible car crash on the way to his holiday destination in the Cape and his T's end up God only knows where..... maybe a zoo, where the T keeper might give them to friends???
I just don't feel that it should be publicly glorified or encouraged, as some people said, do it
responsibly for yourself (nobody can stop you anyway)
BUT rather publicise your findings, good or bad,
AFTER the fact.
I simply don't think it's ever going to be a good idea to have something like that circulating where it could end up diluting gene pools way down the line!
Lastly I think that when hybridisation occurs naturally as an evolutionary process, it's only because it works or is an evolutionary necessity in that specific region for those specific species.... that's why I don't think it's up to us to be doing such experiments.
