Been saying that all along, seemingly missed by some. No one can stop me doing what I'm doing, only I have a clear obligation to share publicly and be responsible in doing so. If you can't control yourself ethically or otherwise, you are on thin ice anyway, not ONLY in the Tarantula hobby but in life.

People come to the forum to learn.
As older members we need to provide a positive influence for all members.
Openly producing hybrids by experienced members seems very irresposible to me and a bad influence, and thats why i say take responsibility for your actions cause what YOU DO can influence others.
Then its not your problem as they must police themselves

I take exception to that statement, more so coming from my friend who should know better, and have known what my contributions to the hobby are/were.

I keep referring to LIFE in general because the Tarantula hobby is not isolated from it. When raising a child (an experience you might not have yet) it is fatal to the balanced development of a child to isolate him/her from reality. Without exposure to all things, good and bad, you hardly prepare it for THE REAL WORLD. As Bill Gates said, "Life is not fair, deal with it..."

If I, or anybody else publicly share this side of the hobby and our experience with it, it provides the beginners a balanced view of what can and can not be done, and as you said Mammon, "Then its not your problem as they must police themselves". I certainly will not take responsibility for the misjudged actions of others. I will only deal with my own ethics.

Now while I am on this moral high horse, I can tell you that from the people I have met in the hobby over the years, I can name only a few that have not stabbed me in the back. This is the greatest concern, not the mating of the different species.

Scarab why are you seeking approval. Just lock your thread and go on with the "experiment".

I'm sure we'll all eventually get over the stigma of hybrids but at the moment most of us think there are enough species.And yea I can imagine the excitement of breeding them out but this isn't the kind of example the big woofs should be setting, especially you okes with indig. permits. It's a bloody disgrace to us who dream about having permits and P. mettalicas.

If you're gonna run a scientific idea you should publish a paper and do it after 4 years when you have proven the offspring fertile.

Other than that it's just a nice thread or for personal pleasure. No one should have a God complex and start with that if nature does it I can too.

I am not seeking approval Lion, I am (obviously without luck) trying to bring across that the idea must not be shot down, but that the ethics of the person doing it is what counts.

It is also a bit harsh tagging this idea with the "playing God" argument. The principle has existed for many years, why is it when it comes to spiders it is classified as "playing God" ?
