The poecilotheria's are known to do this burrowing when they are young. When older if you provide an elevated hide they will use it although I have a 12cm P fasciata that still prefers to burrow.
My P irminia though is from the Psalmopoeus genus. My cambridgei from the Psalmopoeus genus also burrows so now not sure if they truly are an Arboreal species.

It is normally for them, from sling up to adult hood they will burrow if they have the chance.
It is also how you keep them.

Mine has currently done the same thing, but is due for a moult very soon

My P. irminia has done the same thing too. It last moulted on the 10th of Feb so its definitely going to moult out soon as its still only 9cm

Hehe, seems pretty standard behaviour. My little one used to burrow quite a bit and also went MIA for weeks before the last molt. Good news is now that I've rehoused him he's built his home midway up the height of the enclosure and right up against the glass.. a room with a view :happy:

Besides that he now spends most of his day on the cork bark showing off.

If the hidding persits I will advise you to make a small opening to check on the irminia. A year ago I had a gravid female P. irminia, 2 months after the mating with 2 males she closed herself in. I thought that this was it, she's going to produce a eggsack, but to my horror...when i made a small opening another month and a half later to check on her, she was dead. She never even got round to laying her eggs, and the enclosure did not even smell funky.
