I'm all for leaving my T's to be but I have P irminia that has been closed up now for 4 weeks. Tried last night to feed it by dangled a cricket near the entrances but nothing.
Killed the cricket and left it overnight and still nothing. The container doesn't smell so hoping all is still well.
My question is do I leave it be or should I excavate and check out whats going on??

I know it is tempting to want to have a look just to make sure all is ok but I will leave it. Had a P cambridgei that did a disappearing act for well over a month.

I feel that it is also a learning curve in ones hobby, to leave or to bug?

No harm in bugging once in a blue to see what is happening in the container, it also gives you the confidence to leave a spider for months on end with out bugging them.

Had the same issue with our P.irminia - she is still a juvie, but enclosed herself for more than a month and then finally molted about a week ago.

After about 2 weeks of enclosing herself, I bugged her the first time - gently opening the enclosed area to see what she was up to. About a week and a half after that, I did the same, until she finally molted.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that, but like cascade said, don't do it every day (I know you won't, but there are new members on here that will!)

I will most probably leave it be, although it is tempting to start digging. I usually leave them alone when they closee off like this until they push their exuvium out then feed a day or so later. Will stick to that MO for now with this little one.

The strange thing is that for a supposedly Arboreal T this little guy burrows worse than a H lividium!! It is only 4 or 5cm now so hopefully it'll start coming out more often once it's done.

All three mine, ornata, striata and formosa do the digging thing.
The ornata is now about 5 or 6 cm, and is finally starting to hang out in the open. But the other two still prefer digging a hole and being invisible. Seems like they outgrow it.

I am sure one of the more knowledgeable members will be able to shed more light. ..
