I use bark or wood, not from above mentioned trees, every now and again. And yes I tried the microwave thing, it does not work and I still get mold.

However I solve that problem easy. I throw in a bunch of isopods and those little cleaners sort out the mold quickly and the mold does not return either. Love those little guys.

A suggestion is to first put in the wood, let it get wet and the mold grow and the isopods clean it for a week or two and then only house the T in the enclosure. This way you sorted the problem first.

Let the bark dry out first.

I don't put my bark in the oven or microwave, I just wash it under hot!! water and use a scrubbing brush to scrub it.

I use bark from a pepper tree, Bark looks like this.



And then ventilation will prevent mold as well.

Eish!! I am not sure what type of wood it is.. It was extremely dry as it just broke off the side of a tree without much effort. I havent dried it out and have had it for over a week now. Been misting it every couple of dys and no signs of mold just yet. I am too scared to disturb the trinidad's enclosure as we had a run in with eachother once before (damn those guys are fast).

I can remove the piece from the ornamentals tank, as it is not using it just yet.

p.s. extremely shy to ask, but how is mold detrimental to T's?

The biggest thing with molt is that it gets into their booklungs and this KILLS them.

Ripper is correct, its the same as getting mold in your lungs, Mold grows in warm humid places. In short the T cant breath and suffocates

Don't worry about it, until you see mold starting.

So for the mean time it is fine, don't spray the wood directly, and try keep the substrate around the bark dry, and you should not have any problems for some time.
