Hey guys,

I recently picked up a trinidad chevron and P. fasciata at the auction last week.
I put them both into a vertical housing and ripped a nice piece of bark for each of them off a tree in a park.

Is there anything I need to worry about with regards to the bark? The Chevron has made a nice web between the bark and glass, the ornamental decided to burrow first (Which I believe is normal for the younger species).

I know that bark is dangerous because it can mold quickly. Cork bark is often used in enclosures as they do well agaisnt mold and rot.

Also it depends which tree it is from. Eucalyptis is toxic and other genera like cedar and pine could harm T's.

Hope some other member share what bark they use. I do not use bark. I use driftwood.

I agree with Van... need to be careful what you use in the enclosures. Wood molds fast and you cant always see it on some wood. Need lots of ventilation in the enclosure and avoid misting it.

I can vouch for mold. I placed one in a tank to look nice and within a week it had mold. I removed it quickly. I did run it through the microwafe before use.
Didn't help if you ask me.

Mold will occur in higher humidity, so therefore not really ideal for tanks with Ts that need a higher humidity in their tanks. Id stick with, as mentioned, driftwood its the Bees knees

Dry it in the oven on about 80 or 90 for an hour, that kills most things.

10 minutes wont work though, it needs to be in there for long.

I would still get some cork bark though, never skimp when it comes to T's.
