Here are a few things of interrest; - The genera Heteroscodra , Psalmopoeus and Stromatopelma are members of the subfamily Aviculariinae - Lamarck, 1818
- Stromatoxin was first identified in the venom of the african tarantula Stromatopelma calceatum and is the defining characteristic seperating this species from the ones carrying Psalmotoxin.
- (Heteroscodratoxin-1 (also known as kappa-theraphototoxin hm1a or hmtx1) is a neurotoxin produced by the venom glands of Heteroscodra)
- The genera Psalmopoeus and Tapinauchenius do not have urticating hairs, unusual among new-world species.
- Aggressive behaviour of Psalmopoeus found in all old world species.
In my opinion Psalmopoeus hitched a ride from Africa, I think Heteroscodra and Stromatopelma came first...
