Hey Tarantula keepers

If you're you may notice things others don't. In this case I have noticed plenty of subtle similarities between Stromatopelma calceatum and certain Psalmopoeus species, particularly Psalmopoeus irminia and psalmopoeus cambridgei.

The similarities I have been able to see are:

1. Leg markings for P. Cambridgei and P. Irminia are very similar to S. Calceatum

2. Body Shape for Mature male for all three are very similar (But this could just be all arboreals)

3. P. Cambridgei has a "Line" on it's abdomen, which S. Calceatum also posseses but with more markings

Now I understand that some of you might think "Well it's just a coincedence" but think like this:
South America was at one stage connected to Africa so it is quite possible (This is all theorectical) that the ancient ancestors of these two genera were split between Africa and South America when the continents split, and with a few thousand years of Evolution became the Two Separate Genera we have today.

Now just remember this is all merely Conjecture and is merely a theory of mine.

Anything's possible I guess. How did Lemurs get to Madagascar?

I would like to hear more on this topic. If you have a look at a mature male Psalmopoeus cambridgei or P.irminia, compared to Stromatopelma calceatum... I think they look VERY similar and all feather leggy.

Looking at the spermatheca of the Psalmopeus, they(the ones I could find) all seem to have little globules:

Whilst the Stromatopelma's spermatheca, though not fused, seem smooth:

I must say that although this is an interesting topic, i highly doubt they are related in any way.
The S. calceatum (unfortunately the only specie of the five available in the hobby) is an african Sp. while the Psalmopoeus genus is native primarily to the Americas. you could say that South America and Africa were once connected but Pangaea (The name of the mega-continent) separated a few million years ago into the continents we know today, long before these two genus' existed. I'm not an authority on this topic, but this is just my sense of this.

Yeah, I fully agree Panama, they are waaaay far apart in terms of being related, but they have very interesting similarities, would be cool to find out if they had any connections thousands of years ago... Where is Magnificent Duke... he must have found paper on this by now lol, he is like the ultimate resource for resources...
