Hi all

DKS hit my 8cm P.ornata which sucks!!! i have it in icu at the moment. Is DKS contagious? should i take the spider out the room? iv never had it before...

Help is wanted!!!!!!!!

By the sounds of it, looks as if the crickets on the market are not good. Iv heard of a few Ts now that
have got DKS.

When was the last time he/she molted? If its a small T its molting cycle is more regular.
If It has molted a while ago and is due for a molt in the next month or 2, the chances it
molts out and regenerates itself are good. But if has recently molted, I would be more
stressed. The thing about DKS, its a bacteria carried by small insects(CRICKETS). Once
a tarantula has injested the bacteria, the bacteria will carry on growing until it has completely
killed your spider. If the tarantula can molt, it will get rid of the DKS, nut if it has recently
molted I would try feed it as much as possible, also hydration gel mite help, as it has gelatin
which will give the spider some protein.

First I'v heard of this. So can you basically tell that your spider has DKS when it's movements becomes irregular?

I lost my B.klaasi to it a month ago.

Was keeping up with it for about 3 weeks and then it tried to molt. 3 days it was spending on its back, kicking like crazy trying to get out of the old skin. Eventually on the 4th day it died, still on its back with some poop sticking out its bum.

it was only 5cm but what sadness that was!
It killed me cause there was nothing I could do and it seemed to have been in a lot of pain. Really was torture

About a week ago so will see what happens.... the other 9 seem in perfect health... i read about that DKS could be genetic.... The theory stated that if say my P.ornata survives and matures and i go and breed with it, the next generation will have a good chance at getting it as-well, so from one DKS spider to 100s of potential DKS spiders see how the ball will just keep on rolling!!! This is not hard facts, but if you do have a DKS survivor DO NOT BREED IT....

Also if the crickets are say infected with this DKS how come iv never heard of any reptiles or any other pet that contract it from its prey??
