Thank you for your vote of confidence :whistle: So far, very little sharing has been done as Dirk knows that we are spending hours on the internet reading and watching videos, and not waiting to be spoonfed. No doubt his demonstrations are going to be enlightning.

Let's put this to rest now Danny - you made plenty statements over the past 24 hours and you backtracked on a lot of them. I'm here to stay, I'm not going away. And my aim is definitely not to ruin your hobby for you or anybody else. Grant me the freedom to enjoy my Ts and future breeding endevours, just like you expect yours to be granted.

I would consider a newbie some one who is not well versed on the subject. If we want to get all anal about it lets put it into gaming terms. a person who picks up a new game/hobby with less than 6 months worth of experience. Newbie is besides the point I made though....

I would say that anyone is more than fine to breed but they need to do it ethically as i stated and responsibly. I listed my reservations in the previous post, and if that person acts unethically for example trying to pass of say Acanthoscurria geniculata for a Grammostola pulchripes then i consider that person to still be a newbie. For me noob is a person that is not knowledgeable and not experienced on the subject.

My problem is like i said I drive around for a pet because i would really like the new addition and it isnt like i am hunting for a better price or anything but lets face it the pet stores dont have a good selection with the exception of one or 2.

So now you drive around for this new pet all exited only to find out that he is trying to sell you something else than what he said it was.
Or you purchase the Sling and find out with in 2 molts that he sold you a dud, thats not cool and really hurts your confidence,

I mean are you gonna buy a BMW only to find out that they chucked a ford engine under the bonnet? How pissed are you gonna be at the dealer? For me its all about ethics. These are animals and need to be treated correctly in addition just because you cant get rid of your stock don't sell it as something else or put it in the field.... this is my issue with the situation.

Okay time for my 10c ....

I have been reading both threads regarding newbies and breeding today and all I can say is how I see the whole situation from my point of view, I classify myself as a newbie, why, well reason being I am still new to the world of tarantulas and still learning every day. The more I learn the more fascinated I become, my colleges at work roll their eyes at me and think I am weird or losing it, but hell I don't give a damn what they think.

To me breeding is a huge responsibility and should not be taken lightly, whether you breeding a Curly or a P. Metallica, you should have the resources and time to look after them, if they can not be sold, and I think there are so many T's out there that people breed and can't sell off that they do indeed land up in the freezer or the field and that is so wrong on so many levels.

But what do I know right, some of you might ask, I am just a newbie, well at least I am a newbie that cares, and yes I personally think people should first learn and do a lot of research before even thinking about breeding no matter if you have been in the hobby 20 years or 1 month.

I have even come to the conclusion that no matter how cheap, I will never add a P. Metallica to my collection, because it is all everybody can talk about and argue about, so yes I don't even want it for free. Wow, that must be a shocker hey, but yeah what can I say, I'd rather have 20 Curly's than a P. Metallica in my collection, for one I don't think I will breed, I might change my mind in a few years but for now I am just happy to collect, as my hobby will never be about money, but just the pleasure of buying a sling and watch it grow into adulthood.

So breeders new and old, breed, go crazy, but in the end just take responsibility for what you put out there for other people to buy, and then lastly just stop being so damn stuck up and just enjoy the hobby you have come to love and care for so much, as at the end of the day people will do as they please and not care, but at least the rest of us can sleep with a clear concision that when we breed and sell our slings we doing it the right way.

Some thoughts from inside my wet brain:

What is a newb:
Think of something like Lysgaard's U-Curve or the competence matrix .
They are not dissimilar. Once you have passed through the trough-y bit your ass will stop being newb.

So now you get two approaches to breeding:
1. You do the time, raise the slings, build your collection and then when you feel you are ready you start thinking about breeding. By this time you probably have had first hand experience of the crappy parts, like buying H minax and ending up with C dyscolus, or buying L klugi and ending up with L striataparahydifilluklugi. So you care. And that reflects in what and how you breed. You know the value of the animal, and will not sell say A versicolor for less than 350 or 300 a sling, because, fuggit, that's what they're worth.
2. You rush in, and start breeding.
2.a) you fail, leave the hobby, the end.
2.b) You succeed, but in your ignorance you bred hybrids. You suck.
2.c) You succeed, but because the saturation limit is low, and you don't have the enthusiasm for the hobby to sit and wait out the cycle I explained in some other thread, you sell out dirt cheap, forcing prices down, or sell your common spiders as something more rare.
I have, we all have seen this happen many times in just this past year.

So now we have someone like Linn coming in, ready to breed the rare spiders.
Will she, with her reputation as a breeder of cute kitties and the assistance of experienced people become the first person (in my experience) to jump straight into breeding and become a reputable breeder?
Or will she fold like some are expecting her to based on the many, many examples the hobby has had to endure.
