You can hang a thick blanket over the cabinet, use polystyrene to close off the gaps.
And as you have said, about using a piece of cardboard for the back of the heating pad.

Once apon a time, when I first started in this hobby, this how I use to heat my spiders.

Spiders moved into cabient in the outside room.







And then you will see the heating pad in the middle of the 2 tanks, this was the method I used when the spider were moved into the outside room.

Thanks Cascade. My house is an old one and its warmer outside than in most of the time during the day.

My T in ontop of a shelf. He just seems to do better with heat.

In summer I don't heat at all. Its only in the winter. And then the heat isn't hars. Temps between mid to low teens and low 20s in the centre of the cage.

Just wondered how the pros do it.

Nothing wrong with heating your spider. A Happy spider = happy owner.
Depends if you want to breed with her, then it is always good to give a cool down period.

I don't think there is a pro way of doing it.
I think it comes down to how many tarantulas you have and space and the most cost effective way.

At the moment I have a small room that my spider and snakes are housed in, and have 2 wall mounted heating panels, and the snakes heating pads.
One of the members built a walk in "box" in he's garage to keep and heat he's spiders.
Some people have whole garages full of spiders where other just use rooms, some members are lucky with location.
One member uses a pantry cupboard with a panel heater for heating.
An old, Ex-member of this forum use to house he's spider on top of the TV or by hes computer.

I take my T's very seriously. Still get sad when I think of my sling that died last week. For some people they might by gross. But for me they are part of the family. Would go to great lengths to keep them happy
