If she has been in the hobby for a while, then maybe she does know what she is talking about. Was just saying that just because someone is studying zoology doesn't mean they know tarantulas.
I'm not disputing that there might be 2 forms, just hate it that everytime a spider has a slightly different colour it is called a new form.

This is the problem, people keep bringing up color forums I got a lighter. I got a darker, I got a big blue and purple spider so that makes it rare and I'm going to sell it to all the people who don't have a clue!
There are no color forums in H. lividum, might just be variant of color in the species!(or could be down to the conditions that the spider is being kept in)
If you go and Google color forums in H. lividum you will see most of the post wore all posted in 2004 and and 2007, surely then already it would of been defined that there is indeed a color forum, well it has not and it is 2012.
Same as the RCF and NCF every ones says they are color forums but the are two different species G. poteri and G. rosea



Nick if this person is indeed into zoology can't she maybe do some DNA testing of the spiders, since you have a dark color and I have a "normal" color H. lividum forum, from the DNA test we will get a clear cut answer.

There is currently a project underway regarding coding DNA from all species of spiders.
The problem with this is that you will need a pure spider to compare these "forms" to as a standard.
Think Taki is involved with this, so maybe he can tell you more.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to ask on the open forum if someone has a mature "light colour form" H.lividum female for breeding purposes (like I did a few weeks ago) and you'll see this thread dies off in no time.

OK... so there is 100 guys with "electric blue" H.lividums and 100 guys with "blue black" H.lividums. so what is wrong with calling them a colour form? not saying its another sp. or one is more special then the other cuz thats bullsh!t. but i dont see anything wrong with saying dark or light Lividum. after all there is a reason why some are light and some are almost black. if your mother has has purple hair and your daddy has purple hair... chances are good you will have purple hair. maybe purple-ISH hair.(now the purplish part is the reason we are debating isnt it?) keep an open mind. Some ppl like them light and some people like them dark.. i think tarantula genetics should be studied and shared EVEN more and harder. so............. whose willing to breed H.lividum and raise all the slings to adultwood?? post us some pics when u are done. :silly:
