Thought I'd post my question here instead of making a new thread...

I discovered my dad has an old Cannon SLR camera. My question is, would the lenses that came with that camera be able to work on a new Cannon Digital SLR camera?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I don't really know that much about SLR cameras.

I know many of the newer Canon DSLRs has the lens mount called EF-S, well the non-full frame models have this. It is backward compatible with EF lenses , but EF-S lenses won't work on EF mounts.

The EF lens mount was introduced in 1987, so they should fit on most Canon cameras of late. Best would be to test it first. Take the lens to a camera shop and ask them to test if it fits.

Here are some reference material:

I have some old Canon Ef auto lenses and they work perfectly on the new D-SLR camera bodies!! Some of the old Speed light flashes DO NOT work on the new bodies though!!!

Spydaman, if the lenses are Breech-lock (canon FD mount) you'll need to get the following converter to mount it on an EOS body : www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/23717341/Canon_F...OS_Lens_Adapter.html
Canon EF lenses can mount on any body, and newer canon EFS can only mount on crop format digital camera (any canon slr that isn't the 5d or the 1d series). if the old canon is an eos ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Canon_EOS_35_mm_cameras ) then the lenses will be compatible. if not, you need the adapter.

Cheers!
