The only problem with these roaches is they are brilliant escape artists and they love moving into your other roaches, and once they have moved in you can never get rid of them. They also breed like flies, I went from 70 odd to over 1000 in just under year

They are local species so you don't have to worry about then being a problem species of roach in the house.

The way I keep my red heads is one substrate, with bark and egg trays, I keep them almost how I found them in the garden.
I feed them on dried leaves and also use the leaves as substrate for them.

The only problem I find with fresh food, my roaches don't wont to eat the food, at this stage all my roaches have different tastes, flavors of the week.
I have gone down to feeding them once or twice a week as they just waste the food that I give them.

they get given dry dog or cat food.

They also have staple diet of leaves rice and mielies.
When we have rice or mielies they get feed as well.

Have you tried the dry mix before?

- They are used to eating this mix from a very VERY young age.

Water is provided to them in a bowl filled with washed "pool filter sand" - so top up every time you see the water level falling, this also makes it possible for the nymphs to drink.

Eish - I really only give them veggies or fruits as treats...but come winter I stop feeding them water or dry mix by forcing them to eat orange wedges. for a week and then it is back to the normal dry mix.

I have been doing it for years. People who got roaches from me will vouch that all my roaches are in pristine condition and quality.

How to get your colony to multiply extremely quickly. Well the tip is going to help alot of people so here goes. Remove all the nymphs from your colony as the female Blaptica Dubia are protecting their young and will only produce more offspring as soon as the female feels the nymphs are big enough. So remove the nymphs ASAP and the female will produce more

Have a close look when the female gives birth to her clutch of nymphs? She will protect them for a few weeks to a few months. So remove the nymphs and you will see your colony increase in volume in no time. The nymphs are placed in another container with different sized Blaptica Dubia that was also previously removed, once they are big enough they may go back to the main colony, or a second colony may be started.
