i have been having problems with a piece of wood i bought from a pet store, i am using it in my Singapore Blue, Lampropelma Violaceopes cage, he is about 6 cm diagonal leg span, it takes about 3 weeks and the mold starts growing on the bottom of the wood where it comes into contact with the substrate,(peat moss and vermiculite mix), its white and green and looks like hair

i have herd a lot of remedies like putting the wood in the oven, and even the microwave, can someone please give me some advice as to a solution.

i would be very grateful as i fear for the health of the tarantula

If you can post a picture of your set-up and of the area of contact.

I'm not clued up on mold, but somehow I think the hair stuff is a fungus, might be wrong.

The remedies you have heard of, are valid and do tend to help.
You can also wash your piece of wood in HOT water and scrub the piece of wood with a scrubbing brush as well and just let it dry out in the sun.

The "mold" will also be caused by your substrate being to moist, if you let it dry out a bit and avoid wetting around your piece of wood, then you should not have to much of an issue in future.

unfortunately i have already removes the wood and replaced the substrate, so a photo is kind of hard to do. hahaha
but i will try letting the substrate dry out and keeping the moisture away from the wood

Another thing I did was paint the the part that made contact with the substrate with water based paint or varnish.

There is nothing better than doing a deep clean to help get rid of something you not happy with, you can also increase the ventilation in your tank and that with the drier substrate should do the trick even better.
but adding more ventilation is some times more of pain if it is a glass cage, plastic on the other hand is easy as pie.

Could you post a pig of what type of bark you are using ??
Usually petstores sell drift wood wich molds very easily ..try using some cork bark hardly ever saw mines getting moldy
