You can stain it with wood stainer.
Paint it, which is also very nice as you can change the colours if you get tired of the look.
Just use paint that you can wipe down and does not keep dust and dirt that sticks to it.
And then vinyl, you can get vinyl that looks like wood and curtain colours and stick that on unit.
Just watch the glass will scratch it if you do put vinyl o the shelves.
Or you can varnish it in its raw state.

There is nothing wrong with raw, it is something different

You have done well,I do not want to sound like a know it all , shutter ply would have been a better option as your chip/ particle board in the state that you are using it is susceptible to fungi, humidity, and so forth

Should you decide to use a varnish, my advise is to use a water based product as this will not have formaldehyde in it, this is toxic to your T's, the fume actually never dissapates

Just saying, use it don't use it !
