Molt question. was created by haasdas
Hi guys my G. Pulchripes just molted. It is still a sling and I want to see if I can see if its a male or a female. I have herd that T's absorb moisture from their previous skins after molting. Can I take the molt out immediately or must I wait for a day?

I have never heard that T's absorb moisture from their molts.

Take it out and sex the T.

I hope you get a nice exuvium for sexing purposes.
My Ts (15 of them) have almost all molted multiple times since I kept them, they destroy the exuviums every time.

Or perhaps there is some way to unwrap the abdomen after they thrash it.

anyway. Good luck :D

Synergy, you need to moisten the exuviae using some water with a bit of added dishwashing liquid. Then you can try to unravel the abdomen. It's rare that you can avoid doing this, mostly the abdomens are all screwed up :) The best way to pry them apart would be with some toothpicks or pins.

You're welcome to mail me the exuviae if you don't feel up to the task. If you pad them with a bit of cotton wool or toilet tissue, you can probably just chuck them in an envelope. The legs might break off but those we don't need for sexing. Anything from 4 cm legspan should be ok to sex.

The molt is about 3cm. Couldn't make anything of it. Still 50/50 am going to wait for the next molt and try again:)

If you also cut the spennerits off and the curlied up bit at the back it also makes it alot easier
just dont cut to much off or else you will cyt the sex organ off and defeat the whole object

and then give it time to dry so you can handle it with tweezers

I can onlt manage to sex from 5cm and up the rest is to small for my trained eye  ;)
