@Zane I am not saying trade a B albopilosum for a T stirmi because yes it does not make sense because of the demand for T stirmi.

But think of the trading card games we used to/still play, you would buy a packet of cards for a standard price whether it had an extremely rare one or duplicates. Then you would swop with friends. If someone had a duplicate of a rare card he would then swop for 6 or 7 normal cards he didnt have.

So how would it sound if i swapped 1 x P cambridgei 1 x B smithi 1 x A versicolor and 1 x P subfusca for 1 P metallica? Sounds fair to me! Even more fair if I do not have any of those species.

It is however easier said than done. Everyone has a point especially you but I feel that a hobby with live animals should avoid the price tag. I keep saying this to everyone, would you sell your dog? If you are an animal lover you wouldn't dare not even if your dog was worth a lot of money! So why should it be different for tarantulas?

I have been following this thread cince the start. And all of you have valid points.

It is for each keeper to decide whether to buy T's that you know are wild cought or straight captive bread imports. Or to buy only animals that are bread locally

If you want a X. Orange for R10000 and decide that you are willing to pay. That is your decision even if it is only really worth R1000.

If trades are your thing then go for it. Many people except trades.

The only time I would think of selling one of my T's is if one is a male. Except for my first T MM LP. I love all my T's the same as I do my dogs.

What I am trying to say is that there is no right or wrong. To each his own. Did not try to offend. Just my 2c.

The difference is my scorpions are rarer in SA than most tarantulas, before they bred there were perhaps 6 in the country, maybe more. Can the same be said for mettalica? Besides which, they've got a unique ability which no known Tarantulas have. So yeah, I feel the price was justified. And I've lowered the price since then so yeah

1. I needed to recoup my initial investment (I did)

2. Scorpions and most invertebrates (excluding tarantulas) can legally be imported
