Anyone thought of creating a T society along the lines of the BTS and ATS?

Nope. As long as I don't have to pay though, I might join. Don't know what the point is actually of paying to be a part of one of those clubs

I fully understand why these society's need a membership fee and i personally would be more than happy to pay a measly R100 - R200 for an ANNUAL membership. The people that run and maintain these forums also have bills to pay and mouths to feed.

Lets also not forget the perks that i paid member is eligible for.

Amongst other things -

-Scheduled trips and hikes which requires a fair amount od admin and liaising.

-Literature (print and web) which requires an extensive amount of knowledge, preparation, expertise and most importantly time.

-Maybe they'll throw us a few bumper stickers or a cap too

All for it but you must remember there are people on here that are not from the JHB area so added extras such as trips, expo's that are area specific will leave a lot of people short changed.
Some of the added benefits of these societies could be:
-monthly e-letters
-group buys on specific hobby items such as tweezers, cages, peat blocks, etc.(this would be area specific again)
-discounted forum store prices
Would be interesting to hear what potential members would want to gain from such a society being setup,i.e what you think it should provide in exchange for a monthly or annual fee.

The most important benefit would be that we would have a voice with government when decisions need to be taken that might affect the hobby!
