If you can drink it, it should be 100% ok for spiders, (water that is) Did you know that Johannesburg South Africa, has some of the best drinking-drinkable Tap water in the world.... :happy:

When misting, anything in the water will will evaporate s soon as it is misting and sprayed out, not as concentrated.

Same goes for the water in the water bowl, it will evaporat fairly fast.

There is 3 methods, I use to get the water "clean".

First, let the water stand for 3 days.
Second, boil the water.
Third, use hot water out the Tap, this water is as close to ready and clean.

I have a 25L plastic bucket ready for any water changes that need to be made with the fishes and platanna.

I water mine from the reverse osmosis filter thingy in the kitchen because:
a) I don't trust / drink the tap water.
b) These animals need so little to keep that I feel it's fine to afford myself some faffery with them with something like the water.

It's actually worse to boil the water. Water is bad because of the heavy metals and the chemicals in it, not the bacteria, when boiling water, the water evaporates and leaves behind a water with a higher concentration of heavy metals and chemicals which is pretty bad for you and I assume pretty bad for your tarantulas as well.

MOST areas supplied by Rand water has a blue drop status. That means the water in the tap is very high quality drinking water. My father works for Department Water Purification in the Mangaung area and he has mentioned that Rand Water supplies the best drinking water in the country. If you think your water is crap, go to www.dwaf.gov.za/dir_ws/dwqr/ , type in your area and see what the status is.

I'm sure there are 999 other things you are doing wrong in your house that would affect your tarantula MORE than the water out of the tap :laugh:

Besides, in the wild they drink water out of little mud puddles or rivers and streams. Fish and other aquatic creatures have sex in rivers and streams - and this does not seem to affect T's

No seriously, tap water is all I use. The only reason I would used boiled water for misting is to prevent the calcification build up on my glass enclosures, which is just a little extra work to clean off the glass.

We really should not try to over-love our pets, this never seems to work out well. Most experienced keepers will agree, T"s can do very well in simple set-ups with simple care.
