Hi Guys, Dimitri, I returned from Pongola where I took part in the yearly Tiger fishing bonanza. Unfortunately my equipment got wet and I couldn't get any pictures, but I thought I would let you know what I did find. Down at the Jozini dam next to the caravan park, on the gravel road, there are communals of baboon families. They are so abundant, that you can see them from your vehicle. I grabbed a grass stem and teased some of the webs and every one of them came out. They were all small, about 3cm and smaller and all very fast. They would either show their front legs, or run out and back in again, before my eyes could record any identification information.

My friend's wife is an avid photographer though and I showed her what to look for, so she will now go to some trouble to get some good photo's to me, which I will share here. What was disturbing to me though, was that the nature conservators or field guides I spoke to did not even know what a baboon spider was. They were quite interested to find out what I was looking for and soon directed me to spots at the entrance gate, where we found some more. Unfortunately only small ones in the time I had available.

So browsing the baboon spider atlas, I came across this vmus.adu.org.za/?vm=SpiderMAP-648

I must say I have never seen any species like this within South Africa, even the comments by the expert panel is "STUMPED!" . So I thought maybe some one here can shed some light upon this.
