The hissers, pallids and dubias are live-bearing. So Cenotaph, if you had oothecae in your hisser enclosure, they must have come from another species.

For breeding purposes I'd advise some protein-rich food like dog or cat food, Pro Nutro, fish flakes etc., apart from the veggies. There's plenty other stuff they like to eat, just try it out

Essential for breeding is a very high temperature, ideally around 30 deg C. I just put a heat pad underneath.

Cascade, are your unknown roaches egg-layers? Do they climb? Do the males have wings?

Marula send give them protein and some heat.
I don't have heat pad on mine the flat gets really hot.

@Marula. yes they lay eggs they climb. The females are pitch black. I'm not sure how the males look.but if you look at the last pic I post that's another species of male that seems to be mating with this species.
Cause I only caught 4 females and they keep laying eggs for me.

I have about 20 - 30 mature males and females. It might be the protein. As for the temp. the western cape is still in a serious heat wave.

there is an expression that tstates "horses for courses". can any one shed some light on the diverent roaches and what they are good for, cause it sounds to me that some are better for some than others... :laugh: :woohoo: <<<<i tried hard to confuculate that one!! but i recon the smart people wil get it!

B. Dubia (Orange spotteds) are good all rounders. I find baby hissers great for feeding slings as they are very active and don't play dead. Adult hissers are only good for REALLY big Ts, like pinkfoot or salmon pinks.

Dubias do tend to burrow and can stay in your enclosure for weeks or even months without being caught or even seen be you. Feeding Adult male dubias are the best as they are much more active than nymphs and don't burrow that much.

Turkistan roaches are a pain in the arse. They make sticky stuff on your fingers and are really fast and they climb.
