Hi everyone , I was wondering what your opinions are on the use of Isopods in Tarantula enclosures. I collected about 60 yesterday out of the garden , but haven’t put them in the T enclosures yet. I first want to make sure that they can be used as scavengers to clean up the T enclosures.

What is your opinion on this?

Only ever heard good reviews, we have plenty of them in our P metallica communal and they clean up stuff beautifully!

Howzit Taki. Thanks for the reply. I'm in the process of re housing all my matures, did a couple over the weekend. I'll put some isopods in the new enclosures tonight.

I been using Isopods for a good couple of years now and they are interesting and work.
My first stock of Isopods were wild caught from the garden.

The only issue is keeping the humidity and a the substrate moist or the isopods die.

I started using them but they are quite difficult to find in my area.

So i collect 13 that i could find put them in there own tank and kept feeding them leaves and other leafy vegies like cabbage and such.
6 months later and they have bred to the point where i have 150. I get more amped on seeing their progress then my T's

I worked out that i need around 500 to keep all my T enclosures clean so hopefully at this rate in a few months I should have more then enough.

But allround they are pretty awesome.

i have also been using Isopods in my enclosures for my larger and adult spiders! they are champions when it comes to cleaning up and they do not hurt your T's when molting. i no longer use them in the smaller t's containers because they also make good food for smaller spiders!! and as the guys have said they are easy to breed yourself. i have a water bowl in all my enclosures with sub and adult spiders in so all i do is when i fill the bowl i just over water the bowl a bit so that it spills and wets the surrounding area to the bowl and that is sufficient for the isopods. I learned from the advice that Jake (formerly know as Cascade!) gave me many years ago!!!
