what permits are required to keep tarantula species in South Africa?
Does it differ if you want to breed them?

Are you speaking about Baboon spiders or Tarantulas?

Tarantulas.
An official at our local municipality seems to think that a permit is required to keep them.
As far as I know only a few species (or none) are controlled by permits?

What does your local municipality official have to do with you and your tarantulas?
What council is this?
And what title does he hold? what department is he.she from?

You don't require permits for tarantulas as they are exotic and they are not listed on any list making them so the most simple way to explain it, the only "spider" that require a permit is our local baboon spiders as they are listed as protected.

It not advisable if you need something from them like a plan or something like that otherwise tell him/her to mind their own business and leave the regulations of Funa and flora to NATCON unless he is part of the department then you come back her and we get you the regulations where it states that Tarantulas are not a problem.

topicsucks stir :deal noob  :eyepoke:  :silly: :spider:

Disclaimer: I do allot of work at the building controls of councils and I can't stand when someone that has nothing to do with what they don't know try and advise a person. So that where my response comes from.
