When I refer to a hybrid, im going to do the extreme to make it clearly visible that this spider has to
completely different types of parents.

Use your imagination for a second and consider the out comes of hybrids such as

P. Metallica/ Miranda

P. Ultramurinus/ Platyomma

G. Rosea/Pulchra

A. Seemani/Biocolouratum

B. Shroederi/ Emilia

T. Apophysis/Blondi

Thats just an idea of the extreme i will go. kungfu

Sounds good to me please keep me informed I would love to be involved as much as possible.

I think I almost like the hybrids more than the true species

Just a quick question..

Are you saying that you would hybridize rare specie like blondi and stirmi before you pure bred them???

I really hope that's not what you're saying.

And in response to your hybrid "plans", i REALLY believe that the hobby in SA, as little as it is could really do with more pure species like the ones you mentioned - metallica, miranda, ultramurinus, platyomma, pulchra, seemani, biocolouratum, shroederi and ESPECIALLY apophysis and blondi., and not hybrids of these. at this stage of the hobby we need to be concentrating on growing the hobby and not "personal gain" we barely see these species in their pure form! we really dont need hybrids just to "see what they will look like" and how they differ from the pure specimen.

Please explain the advantages of hybridization to me and please consider the size of the hobby in SA and what we can merit from hybrids of species that are hardly seen.

Maybe i'm missing something.

so, what if down the line, your hybrids go to somebody who labels them as a pure species?
somebody buys it and breeds from it, selling the offspring as something other than the hybrids that they are
you then ruin the captive stock

I think from a scientific point this would be great to document. Following the growth and patterns etc. But there is always a fine line between trusting somebody.

Dave on the other hand is not the type of person to give or sell to just anybody.

I just want to add something else to this. Lets look at this scenario:

Psalmopoeus irminia (Venezuelan Suntiger) and Psalmopoeus cambridgei (Trinidad Chevron) mate together and Psalmopoeus irminia (Venezuelan Suntiger) succesfully lays eggs and they hatch.

Then down the line you mate the same female Psalmopoeus irminia (Venezuelan Suntiger) with a normal Psalmopoeus irminia (Venezuelan Suntiger) male. Now we all know that they can double clutch. My question here is what are the chances that some "sperm" is kept from the Psalmopoeus cambridgei (Trinidad Chevron)
?

Probably 0 dimi, as long as the female has molted and began a new cycle. Aknowledgable breeder wont bother breeding the same female if she hasnt molted to start a new cycle. She would have fresh, un-cambridgei-adulterated spermathecea

Oh, and Dave, sorry if i came accross harsh. i dont mean to attack.
We're having a discussion here :)
