The police arrested a man in the Northwest that was suspected of tiring to smuggle exotic spiders, from Gaborone through Botswana to Gauteng.

Sers. Kelebogile Moiloa, police spokesperson said in a media briefing that the 26 year old had been found with two containers of exotic spiders.

The package was believed to be collected at a post office in Botswana after being imported from Germany.
The police arrested the man on Friday on the R49 between Zeerust and Gaborone after receiving a tip off from detectives in Botswana.

The suspect will appear the Zeerust Courthouse, tomorrow the 25th of September on charges of illegal possession, transporting and sales of these exotic spiders.

The North West police arrested a 26- year- old man for being in possession of exotic species on Friday 21 September 2012 at 11:00. It is alleged that the suspect was on his way to Gauteng from Gaborone after collecting two A4 size boxes caring exotic species.

Allegations further states that the suspect collected the boxes containing 60 exotic species (spiders) from Botswana Post Office and they were imported from Germany.

The police acted on the tip-off from Botswana Detectives who saw a suspicious Green Corsa Lite vehicle leaving Botswana entering South Africa. He was stopped and searched at R49 Zeerust-Gaborone road, arrested and charged with illegal possession, transportation and dealing with exotic species without a permit.

The suspect is expected to appear before Zeerust Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 25 September 2012."
