Apparently it was in his room so I’m assuming it’s a male... it looks like it’s got one of them hook thingies on its back leg. Tonight when he comes out I’ll try take a pic.

feel very sorry for the guy but it’s no use letting him go in my yard he’s doomed to a life of celibacy here

But he’s (housemate and spider) off to the farm again very soon so he'll be letting it go...
it’s actually a pity, we end up, potentially, doing horrible damage to the environment just out of sheer ignorance!

luckily we can still sort this mishap out, and the bonus is there are now two more guys that are learning about a great new hobby. Also realizing how terribly ignorant we were
