I would like to know if anyone can tell me a bullet proof way of telling the difference between these two Ts? I have an A.Brock but it looks the same as the A. Genic? The banding looks the same and cant tell the difference...

Looks like a A. geniculata to me.

I have some pictures somewhere of the 2 different species, I just can't find them at the moment.

The ways to tell them apart is with the bands and then by the colour.

It is easier if you both species standing next to each other, makes it that much easier to notice the difference.

That being said.. I'm not so sure if the slings/juvies being sold in this country is pure brocklehursti anymore. Ive also seen the pictures of what pure brocklehursti needs to look like and I have seen a pure male recently, but with our ones bought as brockle and geni, they look the same with same banding. I can however see a difference in temperament where the brocklehursti are much more skittish and defensive.

This T is a bit skittish. Has never gone in a threat pose and can be handled but is stubborn and will kick of hair. I bought this one as a brocklehursti... I had a genic as well but it just died from no reason when it was a sling. I am going to get a male soon that looks the same(I cant see ANY difference). I wanted to make sure so that I do not cross breed. But seems like they might have been already? One of my friends has a Geniculata and we could tell the difference between my MF brock, his sub adult male brock and his MF genic...

It looks like a Brocklehursti to me, purely based on the color of the photograph. The Geniculata should look more brown next to the Brockle, which should be more black. This is one of the cases where looks don't help much. The seller should be able to give you more proof of the correctness of the specie here.

I have A.geniculata, which I got from very trustworthy source, but still too small for this comparison, as color variations are common and different photo's from different camera's are very unreliable.

okay now I heard about hybrids.... how will we know if it is a hybrid or not? And is there somewhere on this site examples of hybrids? I also heard that there is no more pure A. Brocklehursti gene in SA....
