ok, so i have been able to create some smaller enclosures using the Coffee jars for when my T's reach juvenile age. I will mainly be focusing on Arboreal T's at this stage. I have found a bit of a shortcut from the original plan.

The new idea is as follows.

The tank.



1ft Fish Tank (300 x 225 x 225) for Juvies

and a

18” Standard Fish Tank (460 x 305 x 305) for larger matured T's

I will turn the tank on its side and construct a Plexiglass / Perspex door with vents in.

Now because the tank does not have a nice black frame as the one in the picture above. I thought of gluing in some Perspex strips to stop the door from falling inwards. I will also use the perspex latches and hinges for Maizey's Plastics.

As per my research this appears to be the cheapest way to create these enclosures.

Not too long ago, I had the same idea with the vertical fish tank and perspex door. Looked amazing when it was finished and all, but it warped after a little while. Dont think the perspex was thick enough. :igiveup: And the T escaped......... :whistle:

So theres tip no. 1 - Make sure your perspex is thick (should still be nice and clear)
and secondly, If im not mistaken you can get "reinforced" perspex. So that will add to the strength(might cost a bit more)
Also let the silicon dry 100%, I was impatient and should have let it dry for a while longer. After the flappy part of the lid warped, the rest of it came tumbling down... :pinch:

Got all my perspex from mazies, live down the road from them. I found that they are definitely the cheapest place to buy from.

I like the idea of the little strip at the top. Also the piece of rope as a door handle.

Think I will get the 5mm Perspex. Thanks for the tips.

I was also thinking of using Foam for the backdrop with silicone and peat on the sidewalls. Just to give my T's a little privacy but still allow me to view them from the front and top.

Was the drilled holes enough ventilation as it looks a lot neater than a wire mesh vent?

There is no 'reinforced' perspex, tho you do get two different types, extruded and cast. The cast might be what people call reinforced. Its way more stable than the extruded and shouldn't warp. 5mm perspex will be perfect for your job.

Maizey is good, but if you live close to a Falcon, they are often alot cheaper than Maizey. www.falconsa.com/
Most times they are about the same price tho.
