ok, so I would like to address the issues seperately:
1. it is now illegal to keep flat rock scorpions. Having said that, I know that there are still plenty floating around because they were legal to keep at one point AND it doesn't help letting them go in some random place because that would not be good for the ecology.
2. Thankfully I have never kept scorpions with this problem. Those red things are mites. In terms of how you get rid of them :
you could try and remove them one by one with tweezers.
you could also try and smother them with something not toxic like vaseline -but you would have to do small bits of the body at a time and MONITOR the scorpion during the process - when the mite dies, remove it immediately - this should be a LONG process.
You could also try use BioSil Colloidal Silver and gently with a ear bud rub the Colloidal Silver over the mites, waiting for them to drop and and then kill them - again this will probably be a long process.
NB - I dont think BioSil or Vaseline should be harmful to scorpions in SMALL quantities - the only thing you can do is try. As I said, I have never had a mite problem.
Hope you come right with this. DONT collect or buy anymore Rock Scorpions (Hadogenes sp.) or Burrowing Scorpions (Opisthophthalmus sp.) as they are ILLEGAL to collect or keep.
