A few sprays from a water bottle wont work You will just end up leaving the substrate too wet. Lets just think about this.

So the pinheads "might drown" Then are you going to leave them in there? or you going to sit with tweezers and pick them out one by one? If you leave them there what is going to happen??? hmmmmm heat + moisture + decaying crickets = ?

You will end up cleaning the enclosure anyway :dry:

Im no rocket scientist but is that really better than just removing the T and cleaning the enclosure.

I am all for advice and helping each other out but please people just use some common sense.

Bad advice has nothing to do with "Each to there own". Its about giving proper advice.

It does work because I have done it before, and someone else on this site suggested that I try it because I had the exact same problem a few months back. The substrate in my enclosures is reasonably dry so after a few sprays of water you leave it to settle then you can remove the moist layer of substrate with the dead pin heads.

PS: if you think its bad advice then don't use it, personally I like to work smart so thanks to the person who suggested it a few months back.

Remove the moist layer you say? And you are guaranteed not to leave any remains? So what do you do with the T while you removing the top layer?

I'm not very keen on the cricket drowning method - especially when you have e.g. 20 pinheads hiding in the tank. Who is to say all of them will drown? And how do you prevent spraying the Tarantula whilst spraying the crickets? Must take some kind of magical aim (something that I certainly don't have, with my luck, I'll drown the poor T!)

If you're gonna remove the top layer of the substrate, and (I'm assuming) you have to take the tarantula out whilst removing the top layer, why not clean the whole enclosure while you're at it?

I don't think there should be any shortcuts when it comes to taking out "foreign" objects out of your T's home .... Just clean the tank and get it over with - especially if you're going to have to disturb the T with whichever method you choose.

Clean tank = Happy Tarantula (unless you have a P.cancerides, there is no pleasing them! :S )
