Interesting thread guys ,my question is that do people send out their females on breeding loans ?and if yes what are the risks/loses involved?

I personally think that a breeding loan should not be a 50/50 split ,the owner of the female should get more slings since he/she will be putting more time and effort into breeding the spiders ...anyone else feel this way ?

The older you get, the less you will like breeding loans... BUT, the older folks that do send males around have learned who can be trusted.

There are numerous options, I can only speak for myself. In the case of the two species I focus on, folks have "given" me their males with the agreement that only ten slings would be accepted in return, irrespective of the number of viable offspring. This is not the norm, but illustrates the variety of options. It's purely a matter of open and honest communication, clear understanding of the agreement and most importantly, living up to it. If you stick to your agreement, friends will be plenty, if you don't, the wheel will turn quicker than you think.

Just remember this. People in the hobby talk. You must act such that "the talk" does not turn against you.

For what it is worth.

I personally do not like loans based on the fact that one ventures into an agreement, out of which there is an expectation - and failure to deliver will then cast a shadow of doubt from the other party.
I have on 2 occasions entered into such an agreement and on both instances I had failures:
1 x my fault - I left egg sack 1 day to long and needles to say, it turned into super
1 x not my fault, female molted unexpectedly

I then had to face the owners of the males and explain to them that failure was indeed my only success
what  are the chances of the other party believing you - ZERO

Instead they start watching the market to see when are you starting to sell there " NON EXISTEND " slings

Thus you can loose friends equaly fast with true and honest intentions, and walk away with a flawed reputation from "the talk "

As Scarab said " the older you get, the less you will like breeding loans "

So now I only venture into such an agreement with an old hand at T's , who knows and understand the risk - or I will save up and buy what i need.

Further to this - A true friend is not the person talking k@k about your failure, a true friend is the one who picks you up and dust you down after a failed egg sack, and I am sure Scarab, Mamoon, Ceratogyrus, Fangs... all bear witness to the demoralized feeling of a failed sack, And sadly there are few of those friends around.

So the moral of my story is " Choose wisely "

he he he I am one of those people who would rather except 10 slings, as a bottle of Johny walker black label is expensive :) and I trust Scarab by mere record and breeding reports and extensive research.

There are also numerous breeders who also would let you know the terms of the breeding loan because they specialize in say 3+ species and they would let you know that you will only get 30% of the slings as the females are him or hers, even if said person has more than one female, AND you still stand the chance of loosing the male :( like C.cyanopubescens, as the females are extremely aggressive and chows the male. Successful mating is the first step "the easy part in some species" that is why you would like a person who has more than one female or males.

This is probably going to make all the breeders laugh their ass off, but me and Ayal are going to breed G.rosea (rcf) and I have 2 males and a female. The mating is easy, getting her to drop the eggsack is issue number 2. Her not eating the eggsack is the third issue and lastly all the eggs making it to 3rd instars "long discussion it's not 2nd instars now"

I have had same thing happen, and on telling the owner of the male, that the egg sack did not make, he did a 180 degree turn from being a nice guy to one that ended the conversation and put the phone down in my ear!!

But what I do is, I document every thing , from the spider arriving at my door step to the spider leaving my door step,
It all part and parcel of the game!

Trust, and just plain knowledge of the hobby is key in all of this!

@huzi yes there are members that beleave in what you do! that female needs more of a percentage of the slings!
there are a handful.
