Hi guys. some of my beloved T's have reached the 8 and 10cm mark. i would like to sex them. the following are in that size region: G.rosea, P.cambridgei, H.maculata, L.difficilis. How do i sex them from a moult? Is it true that a G.rosea can breed from 8cm? how do i know if it is mature enough to breed?

As for your G rosea, use the search function of the forum. Possible answers for your question might come from words like "Amber spermathecae" or "sclerotized spermathecae".

G rosea is very easy to sex. Posted about it on Friday.

Check 2 front legs for tibial spurs... Little hooks under second segment of 2 front legs. Looks like little rose thorns.

also check for bulbs "little boxing gloves" on the end of the pedipalps.


If at 8cm the G Rosea doesnt have these its a female.

Not all species are this easy to sex unfortunately.

You sure about that statement?
I have seen rosea males over 10cm before that had no hooks at 8cm?

That's really a bad way of sexing a spider.

Males of the same species mature at different sizes.

to say that if a spider is x cm's in leg span and has no pedipalps or tibial spurs is wrong, especially telling this to newbies.

I can just imagine all the new guys sexing their spiders in this fashion and sexing boys as confirmed girls :dry:

The only method that should be encouraged is to check the exivium after a molt

To some of the more experienced keepers it might be easier to use the size or color of a spider to determine the sex of that specific spider, but at the end of the day its still an educated guess, but a guess non the less :whistle: :pinch:
