Seems like a valid one this time. :( www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/Cape-Tow...spider-bite-20120815

A pity they have a random spider marked as a sac spider on the picture on the article. :(

Sad thing is it was not really the spiders bite as such that killed her it was her Diabetes that made healing near impossible :( But yeah from what I gather it's a nasty piece of work either way.

@Spunky

Follow this link and you will see where they got the pic from...
www.shutterstock.com/cat.mhtml?searchter...h_source=search_form

I know they made a mistake but like this thread is about something just pissing people off the same goes when people so easily call others/what they do pathetic. I studied journalism, have worked for newspapers and mistakes will be made. The pic they got was from shutterstock listed as a SAC SPIDER, journalists are not arachnologists so probably working on a deadline and just taking what they thought (from the given description) is a sac spider they just went with that pic.

I mean they're not just lying about it being a spiderbite as the origional topic of this thread was they simply used a wrong pic which they got from false info.

For image search, I always use Tineye. There is a chrome plugin that you just right-click on a picture and you can search Tineye for it. Always interesting finding the source.

Reply from Norman Larsen regarding the spider bite.
Norman is one of the top arachnologists in the country and the go to guy for the Western Cape:

Hi Folk,

Gerbus agrees with us that this is total bull SH one T. He has spoken to them I have tried to contact them via a friend at the Burger. Strangely Philip de Bruin works from Gauteng for the Beeld so you should get a copy.
Read the translation.

This story below is totally a case of misdiagnosis. There is no proof of a spider bite, It was recorded as a Sac Spider. The signs and symptoms are totally incorrect and one cannot pathologically confirm spider bites. Spider venom contains an antibiotic so no infections are present. Violin spiders do not occur within 200km of Cape Town and the result of their bite has been exaggerated and they are in fact not aggressive. The cytotoxic spiders bite effect the skin and does not cause holes in ones flesh. It is a fact that doctors incorrectly blame spiders for necrotic wounds and are wrong in 70-80% of their diagnosis in SA, USA, Europe and Australia. There has been no death recorded as a result of a spider bite in south Africa in the last 70 years. One must also ignore hoax emails sent and to Google it on Mythslayer.
One often wonders why Chinese and Japanese camera manuals etc are so difficult to read. Below is the article as it appears in Die Burger on News24. When you click on the translate button the English text below the Afrikaans appears. Please read and have a hearty laugh.

Best,
Norman.

Sakevrou sterf ná giftige sakspinnekop haar byt

KAAPSTAD.
