Hey guys

My Lasiodora klugi has been acting strangely recently. It has completely dug up all its substrate in the last week and spends its days hanging from the side of the glass. At night, it moves down to the bottom of its enclosure. It's about 5-6cm and has been in the same enclosure since the expo. No water bowl because it keeps covering it in substrate, but I mist once a week. Temps vary between 16 and 22 degrees. Is it just being a spider or should I worry?

I have a B.vagans, L.klugi, L.parahybana and G.pulchripes who all do the exact same thing.

I think it is probably just being a spider, imo.

Maybe try supplying a hide.
I use the little square plastic plant pot thingies, get them from Plastic World or Crazy Plastics for like R2 each.
I cut them in half and use the half as a hide.
Sometimes this helps a bit.

Definitely a spider just being a spider. Mine does the same thing. But some good news as mine molted yesterday.

I had a G.rosea do the same thing. At the time I was real new to the T's thing and kept trying to fix her hide.

Eventually I just let her be, a few weeks later the hide I supplied was lying buried at the bottom of the enclosure and she had built her own little home and lived happily for a number of months until I rehoused her.

Since rehousing she has not excavated at all besides closing up the hide provided and just sits on the substrate.... weird

I've never owned a Brachypelma that was happy with their enclosure. They always turn waterbowls over or fill it with peat ... Hang on the sides of the enclosure.... etc.

And I've had no deaths due to that fact.

As long as they have a normal appetite and does not look dehydrated, then, you shouldn't worry too much. Just give them a hiding place and let them take their issues/PMS out on the water bowl !!

Thanks for all the advice. It eats really well, 2 mealworms a week. I'll let it be, at least until it needs to be rehoused due to its size.
