Meaning of Scientific Names

So for everyone ever wondering what the scientific names actually mean here are a few and will keep updating the list :

Poecilotheria = ποικίλος (varied, irregular, mottled; many-colored, spotted) + θηρίο (beast)
Should be pronounced pi-ki-lo-th-eria

Theraphosidae = τέρας (monster) + φως (light)

Brachypelma = βραχύς (short) + πέλμα (sole of foot)

Ceratogyrus = κέρατο (horn) + γύρος (round)

Chilobrachys = χείλος (lip) + βραχύς (short)

Chromatopelma : χρώμα (colour) + πέλμα (sole of foot)

Ephebopus = έφηβος (youth) + πους (foot)

Xenesthis = ξένος (stranger) + esthis (strong) - Pronounced kse-NES-this

Hapalopus = απαλός (soft) + πους (foot) - Pronounced aa-pa-LO-pus

Haplopelma = απλός (simple, single) + πέλμα (sole) - Pronounced aa-plo-PEL-muh

Harpactira - αρπαγή (snatch-er) - Pronounced ahr-PAAK-tee-ruh

Lampropelma = λαμπρός (bright) + πέλμα (sole)

Ornithoctonus = ορνίθιο (bird) + κτόνος (killer)

Spermathecae = σπέρμα (sperm) + θήκη (case) - Pronounced sper-maa-thee-kee

Iridopelma = ίριδα (rainbow) + πέλμα (sole of foot) - Pronounced ir-i-duh-PEL-muh

Pterinochilus = πτερό (wing) + χείλος (lip) - Pronounced pte-ree-nuh-KEE-luhs

Aphonopelma = άφωνος (silent) + πέλμα (sole of foot) - Pronounced uh-fone-uh-PEL-muh

Agnostopelma = άγνωστο (unknown) + πέλμα (sole of foot) - Pronounced uh-gnost-uh-PEL-muh
