So, last year my mated female A.purpurea made an empty (as in nothing inside)eggsac. After she molted, she was mated with three different males, all of wich she killed. Two day's ago she made a beautifull eggsac AND another today. Dazed, confused and not knowing what to do, I phoned some of the more knowledged people in the T bussiness. After some lenghty discussions I decided to remove the first eggsac to the mechanical mom.

Big was my surprise to find an empty eggsac, so I took the second eggsac from her and it was also full of emptiness. What happened.....I don't have a clue.

Don't know what to say other than that sucks.
She's screwing with you... not nice.
They are so unpredictable sometimes.

Were the males wearing protection?

That's really odd Snarf, my first question would be which one is the culprit? The males or the female? Either the males are all shooting blanks which I would say is highly unlikely seeing that multiple males were used and the chances are very very slim, or the female is infertile... or stressed? Or has something that is preventing her from creating or laying the eggs.

Very strange... I would love to see some answers on this.

Maybe shes just barren, does this actually happen that often? And whats the probability of it happening with three eggsacs? With all the males shes hooked (no pun intended) up with and mauled there must have been multiple successful insertions.

My comments here are based on biological realities, and not on Tarantulas as such. Some of us grew up in the lap of Mother Nature, so we often notice that it is not uncommon to have infertile females, unable to reproduce, no matter how much sperm is available. One can not isolate this phenomenon to mammals or birds or reptiles or fish...

I am not suggesting your spider is sterile/infertile, I am suggesting it might be... Get a viable egg case and prove me wrong... PLEASE mate !!!
