Okay people. This is the Qoute I got from Amorim in Portugal and I feel it is a bit expensive, please let me know what you all think. As it will cost me R297,500.00 just to fill up a container, this price does not even include my freighting and my import duties. Everyone's comment will be appreciated, so that I may look for other suppliers if we all agree that this is a bit to pricey. Here goes :

1) We have the possibility to supply virgin cork bark tubes as per photos
2) Size of tubes: virgin cork is the terminology used for the 1st bark harvested from cork trees, when the tree reaches 25 years. Being a natural product, it’s not possible to guarantee that diameter will be according to the specified range "really they must have googled this info"
3) Virgin cork tubes are packed in bales
4) Each bale of virgin cork bark weight approximately 25kgs
5) Price per kg: R 85.00/Ex-VAT "Mmm is that not what it retails for in a shop?"
6) 1x40’ container = 140 bales

I guess Santa will be delivering it too?

I agree the price is the same as what I could get it at the shop for... but it is also been a while, so prices have gone up and maybe there's some virgin cork bark shortage?

what would be the full price per kg if you include freight and import duties?

I had the opportunity to speak to the owners of a few petshops including Animal Kingdom "atterbury" who seemed like he was the only person who knew what I was talking about. The verdict so far is I am going to phone more companies overseas for better prices as the above company strip virgin cork for the cork tile industry, so hence the price. I was also informed of a west Africa company which might be even more helpful as I have direct contact with people from SARA rail. So getting the products to SA via train will be cheaper

I will not stop looking for cork bark! Animal kindgom also said they get lots of people requesting cork bark, so one has to do some maths regarding petshops will also need to make a profit if they sell cork bark at R90 a Kg

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I found cork bark sheets at animal kingdom in hillfox centre. R120 a kg. They had a bit but I don't know how long it will last and it sounds like what they have on the shelve is the only stock they have.

I got a few kilos of the bark, but have used quite a bit of it already rehousing my spiders. Great quality bark.
