The metallica obsession was created by Shane Visser
I wanted to reply in the gooty thread under beginners, but every time I view that thread, the driver for my graphics card bombs out and my laptop stops responding.

So what I wanted to say was, everyone is always screaming for a metallica, but when you point them in the right direction... hardly anyone ever buys?? I don't get it. I assume it's the price, but everyone knows they are expensive.

Also, if price is an issue, there are plenty of more reasonably priced spiders that are just as beautiful, if not more so. Also, metallicas are not that rare. Yes, they are hard to come by, but certainly not impossible if you put some effort into it. So why all the hoopla about them?

Dude! Their awesomeness of sheer awesome makes your laptop crap out. I'd say that's enough reason right there.

There are factors like difficulty breeding, sack size, wild population being endangered, uniquely the only spider of the genus which is blue, and let's be honest, they are damned pretty.

In Europe and UK the P metallica dust seems to have settled. In the US they are asking pretty much the same questions as we are here:

I'm not impossible. I'm being improbable.

Wanting something you can't have (can't afford in this case) - oldest story in the book!

Every tarantula is beautiful. Even my Big Ass Momma Curly :)

I personally think the Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens (Green Bottle Blue) is much prettier that the Gooty's ?

Ok, but riddle me this: How many times have we seen people making enquiries about slings? Yet Meteor is sitting with a few juvies that he has had for a while. With all the furore, you would expect him to have filed for a restraining order by now.

Is everyone just being overly optimistic, and hoping someone will come along and offer slings at R500?

You mentioned that they are pretty, and I agree with you, but there are plenty of beautiful T's on the market. If you want rare, then there are rarer T's to be had. I would kill (figuratively) for P. antinous or P. ultramarinus. The latter being more beautiful (to me), and certainly more rare than P. metallica, yet I highly doubt the slings will sell for more.

I think I will buy what's left of Meteor's stock, and try and capitalise on the metallica madness. ;-)

PS. this is not a dig at any breeders. I'm quite serious about that last statement.

Hehe! Wish my GBB (buttercup) kept the sling colours. Prettiest sling of all the T's imho.
