tamed? was created by Maxwell
I ran a search on the forum and didnt really find anything, so sorry if this relates to old existing threads;
I was on Junkmail looking at t's people sell and just looking up general info on t's through google and every now and then saw someone referring to rosea, smithi or whatever the case may be as "tamed".
I think they are mostly pre-programmed animals that can not become tamed, learn to identify their owner, etc, but just wanted to know the opinion of members on whether
they do have the capacity to become more used to handling or tamer.

I dont like handling my tarantulas, primarily because if they unexpectedly run, whirl or bite me I am going to skrik and jerk and send it flying, but it would be interesting to
have a better understanding of how they can and can not adapt to their environment, what they can remember, get used to, etc..

I don't think it is possible to tame a T. They are more likely to do what they want when they want.

My first T ever was a G.Rosea. She was and still is lovely. I didn't know any better at the beginning and handled her most days.
What I noticed with her was that as long as she was on my hand she was quite calm but the minute she was on anyone else she became restless and would display like mad. I think they become used to scents in their environments and will therefore react differently to scents they don't know.

I also have 3 x G.Rosea's and they will react differently especially post molt and once they are again on their feeding schedule. I use a long haired paint brush to see their reaction before I attempt to pick up the T to hand it to someone who would like to hold their first Tarantula. If they look a bit agro, I will move on to the next, or eventually rather look at other T's in my collection willing to be picked up. They have their on and off days or periods :)

I agree with Icklazion i do the same thing. I have been reading the Tarantula keepers guide though and if i remember correctly it says that a T can get used to being held and one should therefore do so frequently to make it more "tame". Personally I'm not sure because some days Ts are fine with being held and some days not like Iclazion said. I would like to see a study on this though, prove some theories.
