Crap. I have replied to this thread twice, very long answers... and they disappear!
Anyway, I think that if this is going to be done, a proper set of criteria needs to be established:
The Species (Of which I think there should only be one of each)
Stromatopelma Calceatum (Featherleg baboon)
Heteroscodra maculata (Togo Starburst)
Poecilotheria Regalis or Ornata (Indian Ornamental or Fringed Ornamental)
Haplopelma Lividum or Minax (Cobalt Blue or Thailand Black)
Psalmopeus Irminia or Cambridgei (Suntiger or Trinidad Chevron)
Avicularia Versicolour (Martinique Pink Toe) Just as a wild card.
Size: All test Tarantulas must be within the sizes 10-12cm (leg to leg diagonal) for example.
Test Subjects:
I believe at least a basic medical checkup should be done prior to getting bit, and let the doctor know what you are doing and what can be expected.
Age:
Height:
Weight:
Sex: M/F
Any allergies:
Last Tetanus Shot: (Find out and get one if needed)
Any history of heart disease or other serious diseases in family:
Any medication currently being used:
Bite Info:
Number of dry bites: (Because it might happen)
Time of proper wet bite: (You should know when it's a wet bite...)
Duration of bite should be say 5 seconds at most: (If longer you will need to get your T off of you, and you may injure it in doing so, so care and a helping hand will be needed.
Symptoms recorded as often as possible: from minute to minute if symptoms are bad, and from hour to hour or day to day if they are less acute. But these reports must be constantly recorded until all symptoms stop or can be considered "over".
I also think all bites should be filmed, the test subject should not be visible except for the bite location and actual bite occurring.
I really think if this is going to be done, and if I am going to volunteer, I want it to be done properly so that it can be considered proper scientific data. The filming and recording of data can all be put together and submitted to the relevant authorities.
