bad news heating pads

Sorry for your losses Dave! 
I am not meaning to sound funny here but are you sure it's the heating pad that caused the fire?
I have several types (the stick on metal with heat cord type and the plastic filament type) and these run on my reptiles 24/7 and I have never had any problems with any of them. They only stop working and need to be replaced every few years.
