So I've been trying to rake pics of my little critters, but I'm struggling to get it right.
Part of the problem is that they're in their glass boxes.

I have tried to use an indirect light source rather than the flash with mixed results.

How do you all take pics?

Take your glass enclosure to your garden, remove lid, remove tarantula, place tarantula on flower, take picture and smile

My pics are far from being professional, and I don't have a fancy camera either.
What I find works, is no flash and just good light in the room. I try not to take pics at night and if I do, I try position a torch to light up the subject.
Although I must admit, I am very impressed with the new Ipad's quality of shots compared to my old point and shoot camera.

To sum it up, just make sure there is enough light and no flash IMO.

My hassle with this is that lots of my spiders (Especially locals) live in burrows. Moving them around makes them duck for cover and not easy to remove them unless I destroy their burrows.

It always depends on the confidence and species as you said. It was not the easiest thing taking pics of a tiny sling T gigas as it is super fast but I find using sun light also brings out all the natural colouring.

Its really worth it though

Erm.. yea.. I'm not confident enough to take them out. I'm too scared of losing them. Thats besides my 3 dogs and two cats that may just spook it.

Yea the iPad does have a nice camera. Don't you find that its a bit big to manipulate easly?
I'm going to try and get a strong indirect light. I have a nice camera tho its a bit old now (D90) but I honestly don't really know how to use it properly.
